Weather and Field Conditions
A perfect afternoon for rugby. Clear and cool. The pitch was a multi-use artificial surface and was not properly marked with flags or cones causing a great deal of confusion about boundaries, etc. and cost Nichols a try as the player ran out of the back of the in-goal area.

General Pattern of Play
Fitchburg State was a physical but very inexperienced side. Nichols was undersized but had a considerable advantage in the midfield and on the perimeter and, through veteran play and leadership, ran away with the match as FSC became fatigued and fragmented.

Detailed Report of Incident
The offending player had, on at least two occasions, been penalized for blatantly playing the ball off of his feet in rucks, ignoring commands to release the ballcarrier and the ball. He disputed calls and was, generally, playing very undisciplined rugby and was warned to desist. Afterwards, he made contact with an opposing player several meters away from the breakdown area. He followed through with a driving hit and did not let up despite play having moved further away from the initial breakdown. He was yellow-carded for foul play.
