Weather and Field Conditions
The match started with cold gusts of wind, but it eventually calmed. It was a sunny, dry, but chilly early-evening kickoff. When the sun set, however, the temperature dropped considerably. The pitch was a firm artificial surface and lined for multiple sports, though principally for American football. The lines caused the usual confusion endemic to multi-purposed, artificially-surfaced pitches and had American football goal posts set up at the back of the in-goal area.

General Pattern of Play
Both teams were short-handed due to injuries and students being away for fall break. Consequently, the match involved less-experienced players with with limited knowledge of the laws of the game and particularly poor technique in contact areas. These factors resulted in numerous penalties throughout the match and an increase in frequency as the match wore on and fatigue set in. There were few subs and those substitutes had even less experience and/or had to play out of position. WPI had an advantage at outside centre and on the perimeter where they scored most of their tries. Generally, the quality of play and discipline deteriorated as the match progressed, resulting in numerous yellow cards and a red card. In retrospect, the match probably should have been abandoned before the last quarter of play.

Detailed Report of Incident
An attacking player took a quick tap off of a penalty, putting the defense under pressure at around the 22-metre line. The offending player barged into the ball carrier aggressively and in open space with no attempt to wrap. The offending player was given a red card for dangerous play.
