Match Report for

Boston University (1st) vs. Wentworth Institute (1st)
07 October 2017

Location: Nickerson Field

Boston University: 22    Wentworth Institute: 15

Breezy, cool and spattered with rain.Pit had confusing and very incomplete markings that needed several rounds of review before the match started for both the official and the away team. Both teams were able to articulate a game plan and style they wanted to execute, and both came out aggressively in that style. BU kicked for territory early and often, and WTI just didn't seem to have the speed or boot to counter these well executed and followed kicks. There were problems with high tackles from BU that were managed well through penalties and standards, while WTI was chippy and very vocal about it's disagreements. There was an incident in the 78th minute when a BU player intentionally faked an injury to get play stopped when WTI was attacking hard and gaining ground well just inside the defending 15m. I whistled for the stoppage to check on the player and he immediately jumped to his feet cheering the stoppage. BU captain was warned about the seriousness of this type of infraction, a penalty to WTI was awarded from acts contrary to sportsmanship, and a penalty try was considered but not awarded given the defenders positions and the relative distance to the try zone. All in all a well played match that had many turnovers and very successful phase play that simply didn't lead to scoring opportunities for both teams.
