Boston Irish v Portland was a NERFU Division 2 Club Men's League match. It was the first league match for both sides and both teams struggled to maintain disciplined execution. In addition, full-match fitness was a bit lacking as breakdowns in the last 20 minutes began to erode. Lastly, 4 cards were issued for dangerous tackles: 1 Red and 3 Yellow.

It was a hard played first half with both teams working to execute to their game plan. Boston scored first with a try at the 15th minute. Portland tied the match with their own at the 21st. At the 23rd minutes Portland #13 was ejected for a dangerous tackle inside their 22. Boston took advantage of Portland's initial confusion to score 1 minute later. Credit Portland for scoring the next two tries in quick succession (28th & 32nd minutes) as they were a player down. Boston leveled the scores at half time with a try. Two cards were issued in the last 10 minutes of the half: @30 - Boston Delay of Game (took Portland's quick tap away) and @40 - Portland dangerous tackle). 17-17 Half.

Portland started the second half two players down and prevented Boston from scoring. It is a testament to their physical style which hindered Boston's attempt to break their line. Slowly, as the match progressed, Boston was able to wear Portland down an create space for their backs to score. Tries were scored at the 52nd, 58th, 68th, and 72nd minutes. Two more cords for dangerous tackles were issues at the 69th and 74th minutes, one to each team. 41-17 Full.
